National Winter Ales Festival 2009

Just a reminder, guys and gals! The National Winter Ales Festival opens its doors in Manchester, on Wednesday this week, at four of the afternoon, with more beer than ever before. Usual venue, New Century Hall, near Victoria station. (That's Manchester Victoria, I hasten to add, in case anyone from Carshalton Beeches or Virginia Water thinks they can get the last train home.)

The Champion Winter Beer of Britain will be announced on Thursday. And for some reason, Saturday is Fancy Dress Day (purely optional), and the theme is pirates. Or is it parrots? Parrots seem to be very much in the local news of late.

I think I recall that there was an argument last year about which Victoria it was on this NG! Trains from Virginia Water go into Waterloo so they'd be wrong on both counts!

Anyway hope to go tomorrow the beer list looks quite good.

Well it was a pleasant night out. Didn't fancy much of the real ale but the Bernard Unpasteurised was excellent as was the Augustiner Octoberfest.

Sadly the Tegernsee Spezial, which is what I went for "wasn't yet available" - shame but you can always make do.

And I note that Dr Busker of Worth Valley Beer and Music Festival fame is on stage on Saturday night - shame I can't go.
