Revival

Is there any chance of reviving this group? The various alternative forums really aren't all that good.

Unfortunately all the CAMRA members didn't want to discuss real ale issues in public and all went off to form their closed group.

overgeneralisation; there never were too many here; usenet only has 200 posters (and 20 of them are trolls).

I was happy with the Titanic Cappuccino at the recent spoonfest. Also the Elysian But I'm not generally keen on weird ingredients in beer.

The 2 out of 3 samples of the Innes & Gunn oak-aged stuff made me think it was superannuated.

Still here after many many years.

Don't post a lot but lurk a lot :-)

I've been using Usenet for 30 years - not planning to stop now.

Lost cause I guess. No more Usenet for me.

There are plenty of active Usenet groups. Just not about real ale.

Any recommendations that might interest an old codger like me? I'm working my way though the lists looking for active groups, but there aren't a lot left where you can have an interesting and/or useful chat - particularly UK based groups.

Ones I look at and sometimes post in:

uk.railway uk.d-i-y uk.transport.london uk.comp.sys.mac uk.legal.moderated uk.media.radio.archers

There are also groups for some of the big footy teams, and I check some of the binary music groups for stuff like rare jazz.

Not very active but:

uk.rec.walking uk.rec.natural-history uk.rec.cycling.moderated uk.rec.birdwatching uk.rec.audio (with caution) rec.games.trivia (active puzzle group)

Thanks for those. I did have a look at uk.legal.moderated once - I may try that again. The others are a bit too far outside my interests, I think.

The natural history and trivia groups might be good ones for me - I'll have a look - thanks for those.

uk.misc then

if you're a cebcre pbqtre (and I presume from your query here that you're already a BA drinker) then uk.rec.sheds

Ha ha. As Bob is a self-confessed proper codger I thought railways and DIY would suit but sheds takes the tea and biscuits, with a liberal dash of rum.

I can cope with tea and biscuits, good coffee (real - not the instant muck), almost any good real ale (but I like the hoppy ones most), the liberal dash of rum is OK in cheap coffee, but good Armagnac on its own is better. However, the real ale is my preferred tipple.

Technically I'm not a "codger" as derived from a "cadger", but I have dabbled in falconry a couple of times. Using it in the sense of an old geezer, I am.

Not sure uk.misc is my sort of thing - it appears to consist largely of a US Colonel who swears at people - but perhaps it gets better if you stick at it a while? The sheds has an element of more intellectual content, in a Goon Show sort of way - I may lurk there for a day or two.

bunch of geeks. I tried to get the goonies to join the shed, but they've faded away. The shed kind of grows on you; inna Hotel California kinda way.

Avoid the kernel, he is an unreformed nutter of the old-skool.

uk.d-i-y is still active with on-topic posts but is getting more off-topic (but semi interesting) off topic posts
