We had it twice!

Bit too strong for me, though I enjoyed a few mouthfuls.

I was most disappointed to have a wonderful half of Marston's Sunbright on Sat night and find that I couldn't get the good session of a few pints of it on Sunday afternoon that I had looked forward to cos it had all gone.

It's always the same at our spoons. They don't get enough low abv tasty beers and when they do, someone else guzzles them! We get far too many strong ones.

Opposite here; if it's good "value" (i.e. strong for the price) there's some swiller's who'll scoff the lot. The "weedier" ones get left.

Yup the first Californian I had was too strong (bitter, abv), but a later one had matured a bit and was more acceptable. I had Eccausinnes Cookie beer (as that was being left) - 3 times cloudy ("management have confirmed it's meant to be") and once clear!

BeerofFest still the Mauldon's Blackadder, though thr Tokyo Black was up there, just beating the Harviestoun Old Engine Oil (can you tell that I like dark beers?). for BB Nelson's Revenge.

Never saw the Phoenix Black Bee, nor Okell's Easten Spice, nor Freeminer Shakemantle, not Theakston Black Bull

Pretty rare: Outlaw, Holdens, White Horse, Hampshire, and Sharps

Well I called in Bolton Spoons yesterday afternoon, to my great surprise there it was "Californian Double IPA" (20p extra over the Fest Price) but, it was there. I sampled 4 pints of it before having a wonderful pint of Phoenix Busy Bee, alas I was only fit for the bus home after that.

What's the name of the brewery, it sounds interesting.

Is that a regular in Bolton Ken, I have never seen it before.

Are you the same K W as in uk.radio?

Stone. It's 7.0% abv, and very flowery on the nose and palate. Nice, nonetheless.

Hi Dave, The California Double IPA (7.0ABV) is normally from the Stone Brewery in California USA but for the festival the brewer came across the atlantic and brewed within the Shepherd Neame brewery, I think? As for Pheonix (Black Bee not Busy) brews in Bolton.. they are infrequent yet welcome at any time in Bolton Spoons. As for uk.radio? If its Not "G", then its CB! :-))
