How were Morrisons meant to sell it?

They chose the acronym and then invented the phrase. They used the last pint out of the bottom of the cask.
Inaccurate.
The phrase "Real Ale" was a later invented bit actually. CAMRA initially stood for The Campaign for the Revitalisation of Ale. So yes,the acronym existed before the current version of the expansion, but not for the reason you cite.
Reference by early members to wanting Real Ale rather than the plastic imitation otherwise known as keg was what prompted the change to the more memorable Campaign for Real Ale.
Such a strong brand that it apparently time travelled (an episode of Heartbeat had a pub sign with a Real Ale reference although set in the 60's and clearly pre-CAMRA)

Yes, I know. But they misused "ale" because apparently the acronym (forced though it is) was essential.
