I really don't like this place being used for beer festival adverts.
Anyone else agree?

It's far more on topic than an awful lot of the discussion that goes on here. So I guess I disagree :)

I disagree. IMHO it's perfectly reasonable to publicise real ale festivals here; the more people know of them, the better, in my view.

Given that most of the recent posts have been about the GBBF, I am surprised that you waited to complain about the Bunkfest. You riding a hobby horse here??
Being a cultural outsider who visits the UK a lot mostly to find great real ale venues, I am kinda partial to folks who provide that info.
While many of the fests will have gone when I get there next, the good pubs will still be there, and I love the advance info.

This particular item fits within the terms of the charter:
Q: Can I advertise my favourite beer, pub or beer festival? A: Sure, as long as you are not a commercial organisation. But remember that BEER is the important thing here. Remember that other people's opinions may differ, and they won't hesitate to pick you up on what they regard as poor service or inaccurate advertising.
Tolerance levels are high so the advertising of various pub "festivals" has been allowed to pass without comment.
To respond to Sam - the Great British Beer Festival thread is discussion of an event that happened (past tense) and the possibility of someone working there as well as alternate venues. In what way is that advertising?

Because I took out the second one in 2002 after doing the CW test, and decided to keep my original one too. I now have both calls for life. I mainly use the M call on HF and the G call on VHF/UHF.

Not at all. I enjoy the discussions on here.
I don't enjoy reading adverts.
Please note, I quietly advertise our own beer festival in my sig, with a url for further details!

Thanks for that, I didn't know you could do that any more.

ICBW, but I have a feeling that you may not /now/ be able to reinstate a lapsed call if you have another one in force, whereas neither of my calls lapsed, so I was able to retain them.

From the FAQ:
Q: Can I advertise my favourite beer, pub or beer festival? A: Yes. Newsgroup readers are always keen to hear of Real ale events and products but are easily upset by repeated and off-topic posts and will reprimand you in public if you mislead them. Please have the courtesy to use an informative subject line.

I wouldn't have bothered about the advert - it was the wholesale repost, fully quoted, that annoyed me!!!
