Ever hear of Heidelburg Beer?

My wife went to visit a friend in Royal Oak, Michigan. They drove over to Frankenmuth and had lunch at the Bavarian Inn. They stocked a beer called Heidelburg. Heidelburg Light, light as in color, not calories. Is this an import or craft beer? I can not find anything about it in a Google search.

Sorry, that's Heidelberg, with an "e", not a "u:.

HEIDELBERG was originally from the Columbia Brewing Co., of Tacoma, Washington. Bought by Carling > Carling-National > Heileman > Pabst. Now Frankenmuth is an interesting place for brewery lovers, since, in the pre-micro era, it once was probably one of the smallest places to have 2 working breweries- Frankenmuth and a Carling plant. Both are now gone, (tho' only the Frankenmuth is missed, I'd guess- I liked their beers the few times I had 'em).

Heidelberg Beer, tho' obviously one of those "regional" brands of C-N and Heileman, Pacific Northwest in this case, did have a history of being brewed all over (Baltimore, Atlanta, Mass., etc.) so I imagine it once came out of the Frankenmuth branch of Carling as well. Certainly the German sounding name works well in the tourist-y town.

Also, note that Heidelberg was one of those Pacific Northwest brands that was brewed on both sides of the border (as was Lucky Lager and Sick's Rainier, IIRC) and being a former Carling brand, it's possible that Molson (the successor to Carling-O'Keefe) might still use the brand, too.

Besides, Heidelberg is a very scenic german town, on the Rhine, ie in the West of the country, with a renowned University... and mind you, they brew beer there too... ;o)

And it was bottled in those cool sort-of-football-shaped bottles that fit your hand just right. (Just had a reminiscence about that with some friends a couple days ago -- haven't seen it around Seattle in ages).
