Hello and goodbye!

After finding this newsgroup and reading it for a while or "lurking" as they say, I decided to post an article that I had saved from the RealBeer web site awhile back. It was a tongue in cheek comparison of wine to beer. I thought it was funny. Apparently some of you didn't, and used it as an excuse to bash me. I tap either Straub or Pittsburgh Brewery's Augustiner Lager, which ever is the freshest 1/4 barrel that the distributor has at the time. I like both of them. The fact that I like these two beers probably makes me unwelcome in this group. In fact I'm thinking that most of the posters wouldn't even go into a pub that I would. Too uncouth, me, my beer, and the pubs I frequent. So, enjoy your high brow beer talk, I'll just see if I can find a newsgroup for REAL BEER DRINKERS. GO STEELERS! That oughta piss a lot of you off!!!!

Well, that's what you get for passing someone else's writing off as your own. There was nothing in your post to say you pinched it from somewhere else, so it looked like something you came up with. And since the piece is riddled with errors and misconceptions, they only thing to do is go after the author - who you presented yourself as.

Not to mention that posting someone's work without credit is illegal and unethical.

How do you figure? Big variety of beers liked here.

Well, we are all either fake or simply computer constructs here, like the agents in the Matrix, so you probably should find someplace with real beer drinkers instead of the imaginary ones here.

Oh, yeah, that really got me.

"Excuse?" It's not about you, TKP, it's about the stuff. Don't take it so personal; it wasn't you that was being bashed, it was what you wrote. Although a Google search turns up that you seem to make a habit of presenting other peoples' stuff as your own. BTW, it's dangerous to try to pass off Stephen Beaumont's stuff as your own: he is subtle and quick to anger.

How so?

My heart bleeds. Where are you, in Pittsburgh? How about Chiodo's, or Chief's, or the Pleasure Bar, or Bloomfield Bridge Tavern, or Max's Allegheny, or the Park House? Too high-brow for you? Some of my favorite spots in Da Burgh. I bring home Straub whenever I visit Western PA (can't get it here), and I've enjoyed Augustiner. Don't assume.

How so? Stand up and take it like a man!

Yeah, the newsgroup has become a mean, nasty place since Lew Bryson left it. Lew used to stick up for and protect the newbies, but since he bailed, they are at the mercy of bullies like the heartless Gunther Prien.

Really? Y'know, I work with the RealBeer folks from time to time. Do you think they might want to know about someone re-posting their stuff here, without so much as a single word of attribution or acknowledgement?

Wah. Gotten over it yet? FWIW, *you* weren't being bashed, since nobody here even knows who you are. Your silly-ass post was being bashed, in most cases deservedly.

Good for you. So why post stuff you swiped from someone else (without attribution), instead of starting off with stuff like this? Huh?

Nah. The fact that you posted someone else's stuff, and made it seem that it was your own, is kinda pathetic, and the fact that you can dish it out without taking it is too. So go home and cry to mommy.

Yes, if that pub ain't full o' folk drinking from silver chalices, little pinkies raised high, those of us who read this newsgroup just turn around and march right back outta there. The nerve of some people, drinking whatever they feel like drinking in their friendly neighborhood corner dive. What are these folks thinking!?

You did. You decided to run off. *What* *a* *pussy*.

*yawn* Buh-bye, pussy-boy.

Excuse me? Ever go to any humor newsgroups? Lots of jokes posted, but none of the authors are identified.

Well, here's something to consider. Your first posting experience here went badly. I won't go into the reasons why. People criticized the content of your post, and you took it personally. We criticize the content of each other's posts all the time, and for those of us who have met each other and know each other, we give each other crap - probably just like your friends at any of the pubs you hang out at. If you take criticism of your content personally all the time, you might want to rethink if you want to hang around.

I don't think you're a bad guy or anything. I know nothing of you. All I know and think is that you handled this one instance badly. If you care to give it a go again, definitely do so. It's not like I'm going to bring this up again if you simply talk about good beers or beer bars in the Pittsburgh area. I personally don't see any need for you to move along.

I can't speak for others, but I give oldline breweries like that a lot of credit for surviving during some pretty dark days. And some of them do brew interesting variations of the American light lager style - a style that does have its place and can be the right beer on a given day (I'd rather play softball drinking one of those than, say, anything by Stone). It's just a style that, generally, holds little interest for me. There are other styles I have the same reaction to.

Well, judging from what you're buying, you're in PA/NJ/DE or somewhere around there. You're blessed with a better selection of those sorts of beers (although I'm not touching Little Kings for anything). When I lived in Chicago, you could get Leinenkugel, which is in the same vein and brews some decent beers. There's also Schell in the Midwest. Out here on the West Coast, no such luck.

You know, I read that Beumont's stuff there, and I think maybe he was trying to reach a bigger audience, you know, maybe one that's not as smart about beer as you or me or the guys here or them guys over to beeradvocatedotcom. I don't know why, but that's what I thought, now.
