Victory Hop Wallop

I tried this last night. I like Victory's beers, and I liked their Hop Devil, so I thought I might give this a try, despite my trepidation about the name.

Well, the name is fully justified. It packs a hop wallop, alright. They push the concept to a place where it should not be taken. I couldn't finish it. Drank about 2/3 of the pint, and then decided to get something different to chase it with. The Celis Grand Cru, in fact. I rather liked that one.

Where? Bottle or keg?

Well, there are plenty of who would disagree with you on that one!

(me included, but its OK to prefer a little more balance in a beer!)

I saw in the window at Fatheads in Pittsburgh that they are making an event out of tapping the keg tonight.

At Redbone's in Somerville, MA. It was keg. They have a large beer selection there, which rotates across brewers, regions, and types of beer.

Is it more or less hoppy the Victory's Hop Devil? Leo

Lots more.

Okay. I tried one this afternoon at the Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh (first pint from the first keg). There was more malt in last year's batch, so it didn't seem as balanced today. Still, it wasn't the hop monster that Stone's Ruination IPA is. It's certainly hoppy, but speaking as one who is no fan of superhopped beers, this was very drinkable.

Cool, I can't wait to get my hands on some. I'm also waiting on SN's Celebration Ale, can't get enough of the hops. Leo

Yeah, hope the bottles make it to New Jersey this year...

It's in NJ already- picked up a 6-pack in Hightstown yesterday. (Now just looking for a good price at Glendale or Canals to pick up several cases for the winter...).

Yup, so did the one in Lawrenceville (between Trenton & Princeton) this morning- picked up a case for $34.99. BUT, oddly, they didn't have any S-N Celebration even tho' I've seen it at other retailers in the area.

And sure enough, the next time I went back, about 2 weeks later, they didn't have it anymore.
