vintage beer tasting

There was plenty o fun and a great time was had at Omaha's crescent moons vintage beer tasting on wed July 14. A nice showing from the Omahahops of Marc, Steve, Jeff, both john and Jon, Dale, Jim, Paul, Wayne, Elliot & the Mrs., Sam and mike all attended along with enough others to sell out all 40 tickets. i won't try to list all the beers but as a random mention, there was bottles of 1960 "s star model, arrow77, Falstaff, Metz,Storz and Flecks. not surprisingly all of these were in the light lager tradition and had not aged gracefully, to put it mildly, these were all cidery, with some slight sourness, then came a canned beer collection from the 1970's and 80's including Griesedick, Hibernia, Eau Claire all malt beer, and even Walters1988 St. pats day green beer. luckily these were followed by some early microbrews including a surprisingly drinkable 1987 Kessler bock, which while a little sharp had an immense choclatey nose, Sierra Nevada porter, summit great northern porter, Rhomberg 1988 "all malt ale" from Dubuque, Iowa Next round was 20 or so various single bottles of everything from grants cider to their imperial stout, 1987 sierra celebration, thousand oaks Calif. brewery and so many others that I simply others that I simply quit trying to record them all. Luckily there were fresh kegs of free sierra nevada celebration and bigfoot to sustain us through the evening. we finished the evening with a gallon of upstream brewing CO's wonderful ebeneezer dopplebock, and magnums of anchor steams special Christmas ales from

95.98, and 1999 Along with 2 very special bottles of 1987 Thomas Hardys ale. The omahops club treasury was slightly depleted by the opportunity to purchase the remaining 8 bottles of 1987 Thomas Hardys which I immediately took into protective custody. Next years winter warmer festival is gonna taste great! both john and I took pictures which I'll get Wayne to post on the club's web site as soon as I get them developed.

Wow. Someone was doing some serious hoarding. I can't complain, as I just came into possession of a major part of someone's hoard last night, including an Anchor Xmas 1982, and early 90s Bigfeet, and an oak-aged, wax-sealed Belle Dock. Major opening and sharing to take place.
