Priming instructions for Starbucks Barista espresso machine?

Hello All -

Is there a kind soul out there who would be willing to post priming instructions for a Starbucks Barista espresso machine?

Many thanks.

Not sure what you mean by priming, but here's my tried and tested method for getting the best out of the machine:

  1. Froth or steam the milk first - I know it doesn't say to do this in the manual, but this way, the coffee doesn't oxidise between the time you make it and the time the milk is ready.
  2. After steaming the milk, release the pressure in the same way you would clean the steam nozzel.
  3. Now grind the coffee and use a tamp to press it in slightly. Again, I know the manual says not to do this, but you get a better crema this way. The trap to watch out for here is to press it down too firmly. If you do this, the machine will have insufficient pressure to force the water through - a little experimentation with pressure is required here.
  4. Use preheated cups.

By the way, if all you're really asking is "how do I get the water flowing through the machine - the answer is to just turn the knob on the side with the power turned on and let the water flow through the nozzel :)
