caramel beer/stout

I was just wondering what flavour, if any, would be imparted by melting
sugar (amount undecided at present) to produce caramel, and then adding
this caramel into a pot full of boiling extract (Draught). During
fermentation, the sugar would be digested by the yeast, but would this
leave a caramel-like flavour to the beer?

I think it probably would add a caramel flavour but you can get better than
that by boiling and reducing some of your wort. Bear in mind it will change
the colour of your beer as well.

I haven't tried it, but people who have report that it has no effect on
flavor at all.
