Carbon Filter

Hi Guys.

Sorry if this is the wrong newsgroup to ask this in but it was the only one I could find.

My son & I are new to home brewing and have turned our attention to alcohol and distilling.

To date, each time I run a batch through the still, after I have watered it down to 40% I run the alcohol through a Z filter filled with carbon. I then replace the carbon with new carbon and filter it again.

I have been told I can keep the 2nd batch of carbon to filter through the first run of the next batch of alcohol before throwing it out and replacing it with fresh carbon for the 2nd filtering. (I hope that was not too confusing!!)

My question is: If I purchased another Z filter and kept one for the first run of filtering and the other for the 2nd run, would I still need to replace the carbon as often, or could I reuse it a couple of times?

I think home distillation is illegal.
