cherry stout question?

I am going to brew a extract/grain liquid yeast stout and would like to add cherry flavor. in the joy of homebrewing book they have a cherry stout recipe that calls for 5 lb. of cherries. I noticed in some brew books guys are using 4 oz of fruit extract in fruit beers. I bought some liquid cherry concentrate is this the same thing as cherry extract? if i can use this when should I add it to the brew and should I add 4 oz. to a stout. carmine

I do not know if what you have is cherry extract or not. I am busy enjoying my first batch of cherries forever stout. I used extract and it turned out great. The recipe I used says to add the extract immediately after the boil before the ice bath. I bought a kit. I came with 3 oz extract for a five gallon batch. However if I repeat the brew (and I will) I think I will increase the amount of cherry slightly. Hope this helps.
