easy belgian?

Try a caffinated beer to "stay up longer" (there's at least one where i live by a microbrewery) or one of the many low carb beers to lose weight. I don't think any companies have combined these yet though.

Sorry no recipe.

Pretty easy...Belgians are all about the yeast, so you have to consider which yeast you want to use. Which Belgian style are you interested in? A triple would be pretty easy...light dry malt extract to about

1.070-1.075, a lb. of sugar ( cane, candi, it doesn't matter). Hop to about 20 IBU with noble hops, pitch your favorite Belgian yeast. WY1214 will get you something pretty close to Chimay.

Hey guys ! First time poster! I'm looking for an easy Belgian recipe. Any body have an extract based - tried and true recipe you'd like to share. I'm really enjoying this group by the way,. seems to be fairly well self moderated. I guess homebrew weeds out the lower rung,. ?? Or is it Homebrew makes us smarter! Now all we need is a beer that makes us "stay up longer" and lose weight!

Hi Denny,

I'm fairly new to this so please bear with me....

What do you mean by "light dry malt extract (ldme) to about 1.070..."? Do I add say 1kg ldme and measure the SG of the wort??? Please explain.

What is IBU and how do I measure it, can you simplify this and say "add X gramms " of pellet hopps and boil for 30 minutes???

Please help.

There's a concept caledd "points per pound per gallon" that we're using here. In effect, one lb. of dry extract in 1 gal. of water gives you 45 gravity points, or an OG of 1.045. So, 5 lb. in 5 gal. would likewise give you 1.045. You use that formula to determine how much extract to use to get a specified gravity. BTW, liquid extract is 36 ppg.

The way I figure these things is with Promash. There's a free demo at

Take a look at it!
