Extract Trappist Recipe

Has anyone got a decent extract recipe for a dubble or tripple using only malt extract? Denny made a post here a while ago but the article has expired.

Ya know, I don't have an exact recipe, but it shouldn't be too difficult to make a dubble. You'd have to do a partial mash for some Special B (you might be able to steep it, but I'd have to check to be sure). Then use extract to get to your gravity, lightly hopped with either EKG or noble hops. The yeast choice is what will make the difference.

Would you mind checking?

I'm guessing hop to around 20 IBU's?

Not at all...may take a day or so.

Yep...for yeast, maybe WY3787. That's from Westmalle, and they pretty much originated the dubbel and triple style.

Hey, it was easier than I thought! Dingeman's lists "Special B" as a crytsal, so you shouldn't have to mash it...steeping will be fine. Use no more than 1/2 lb.

Fantastic, is there a website that I can get this information from or do I just ask you?

I've already ordered the yeast (my LHBS doesn't keep very much in stock), I don't have the number in front of me but it is whatever whitelabs recommend for a trappist style dubbel.

One of these days I'll work up the courage (and the funds) to try my hand at all grain......

I get it from the website of the maltster...in the case of Special B, that's Dingeman. They're distributed by Cargill, who also distributes a lot of other malts. You cna get to the info here

BTW, they also have some recipes for Belgian beers there.
