Frig Conversion

I have a 5 cu ft freezer. I want to convert it to my beer frig / fermenter box. I went to Lowes looking for a replacement thermostat but had no luck.

It is possible I was asking for the wrong thing. Anyone care to help me here?

I also am building a cool box and need a thermo controller for a fan. HELP.... What exactly do I need to ask for and where do I go to get it?

Check with your local homebrew supply store. There is (can't think of the mfg) an external thermostat you can buy that can be used to regulate the temp of a freezer/fridge. I've got one on an old refrigerator in my garage that I use for fermenting.

I set the fridge to "max cold", plug the fridge into the thermostat unit, and then set the desired temp on it (the external themostat unit). The unit has a sensing bulb that goes in the fridge. When it gets cold, it cuts the power to the fridge until cooling is needed again. Gives me fairly precise temp control.

Frank, I recently did this to my dorm fridge. On the back between the coils and the back of the fridge, there was a little metal box. I opened the box and voila!... a little set screw. After some trial and error, I learned that by turning it half turns to the right for a few days... I finally got the control knob to operate in the higher range.
