Help: pushed stopper into carboy

Disaster today as I was racking to my secondary. I was all set to put the stopper and airlock on and I just pushed to hard on it and--kerplunk--it dropped into the beer.

Lots of swearing and throwing utensils around.

So now I have a (sanitized) rubber stopper floating in my beer.

I cleaned out the primary carboy and I'm in the process of sanitizing it right now. I plan on siphoning the beer out of the carboy with the stopper floating in it and back into the other carboy for now.

I can't be the only idiot this has happened to. So, what the hell do I do now?

Much obliged, JM

Murphy's law, huh?

A strong piece of wire with a hook on the end.

Lot's of swearing and cursing.

Ending in a trashed stopper.

Take care when it finally gives. Having you fly in one direction with wire/stopper in hand and the carboy in the other, whilst humourous, could result in a damaged brewer and smashed carboy...

Good luck Mike

HEHE! I had this happen to me too, I used Mike's technique also...long wire with lots of swearing.

Just thought you'd like to know you're not alone.

I dropped a 1 ft. piece of sanitised siphon hose into the secondary (don't ask how). I just left it there without a problem. The beer turned out fine.

Thanks for the sympathy.

She's all fermented and I'm about to bottle tomorrow. Tastes like Bass ale now. Hope it still does in two weeks.
