minimum ale yeast fermentation temperature

Can anybody tell me what the theoretical minimum temperature would be for brewing an ale yeast kit?

I want to store the fermenter in the garage instead of in the house (per wife's demand) and overnight lows in california are currently about 51. Will I have any problems with fermentation?

I'm using a Cooper's(?) nut-brown-ale extract kit. Fermenter is a glass carboy.

Thanks,

Some ale yeasts worke better at low temps than others, buit that's too low for just about all of them. Assuming your also using Cooper's yeast, you should get it more like 65-68F. Otherwise, fermentation will be slow to non existent. I put my fermenters in a large plastic tub of water to buffer thermal changes, then put in an aquarium heater to maintain the temp. You might consider something like that.
