NOT Hairy's...Real hangover help

Before going to bed....Force yourself to drink a good 24 oz of plain water. Take a couple of asprin, too. A lot of the hangover illness is dehydration. Been there, done that!

Would this not mean that you would have more in your system to puke up?

Something that works exceptionally well for me is L-Cysteine, with B and C vitamins. I take one with the first beer, and one with the last one. Then I throw down a couple of glasses of water just before bed.

After a night of 5-6 quality IPAs and the regimen above, I'm feeling just fine the next morning.

What I do:

Make sure I eat before bed. Take a multivitamin. A glass of water (keep one by the bed, drink if you wake up thru the night.

I also not if I stay in bed things are worse. Get up right away. I wonder about using something like a v8 to replace the water?

Hi Scott,

I don't really get that. That's pretty original. How did you get that idea? Very interesting.

The best defense I've found is L-Cysteine with B and C vitamins. I take one with the first swallow of the first beer, and another with the last one. Then two large glasses of water before bed. I keep a window open for fresh air while sleeping, too.

Also, I never never never take pain relievers while my body is still processing alcohol. I'll take them in the morning for headaches if necessary. But never before bed while the happy water is still in me.

What are the best cures for throwing up the morning after? This is the real problem that I have. I've tried eating before going out. I have had plenty of water to drink and other times none at all. I've taken multivitamins also. None seem to work. Suggestions? Oh, and I cannot take aspirin because I am asthmatic.

Ouch.

The best thing I can think of to "cure" that would be Dramamine to reduce the nausea, and Pepto Bismol (or other antacid) so that was comes up doesn't burn as much.

Besides that, the best cure for such a big hangover is to not drink so much to start. And always always always drink lots of water. Even if you don't think it helps, it does.

See, the problem I had with taking B vitamins before drinking is that I didn't feel so drunk after a few beers.... so I drank more! Bad, bad, bad. In the end, I just don't drink as much now. I fear hangovers like I fear sunburn. Maybe it means less fun, but it also means less suffering, and life wasted on the couch.

I always feel better in the morning if I have a bite to eat before I go to bed with a glass of water or 2

The biggest hangover relief I've *ever* came accross is plain old Alka-Seltzer.

With it's combination of aspirin and bi-carb it is a lifesaver. I recommend taking it when you wake up near morning (4 or 5am'ish). Set it up on your nightstand: pitcher of (ice) water, tall glass, two packages of AlkaSeltzer ... BEFORE you go out to drink. When you finally drink it in the middle of the night; take 1-1/2 standard doses ... that is: 3 tablets total (disolved in water of course) ... then go back to bed and try to sleep as long as allowable.

If you can't take aspirin, try an alternative pain reliever along with a bi-carb that you can drink like bromoseltzer (etc)

Another thing you can do is to avoid all carbohydrates before, during and after drinking. The process that metabolizes alcohol is the same one which metabolizes carbohydrate. If you consume lots of carbohydrate while drinking, the processing of alcohol takes a back seat while you process the food ... this alcohol "backlog" significantly poisons you worse than if your body had been able to process it optimally as you drank.
