you shouldnt use a lot of newer plastic bottles, not because of the pressure, plastics are tougher than people give them credit, but for the reason that a lot are biodegradable, aka, gets into your drinks...this is also why bottled water has a use by date...

The general consensus seems to be that plastic is OK if you are not planning to store your beer for long. I suppose that that translates as fine for ales but not so for lagers or wines.

Personally, when I am bottling a brew (I usually keg) I use glass but always fill one plastic bottle so I can keep track of carbonation.
