Storing brewed beer

Hi,

I brew 25 ltrs of draught 7 day turn around.

I put 22 into my keg. the 3 left over I bottle.

I'd like to brew more but storage is a concern as I don't realy want to bottle. I prefer using my keg.

Is it ok to use 5,10 or 20ltr plastic containers to store my beer?

Is it ok (advisable) to prime the beer in those large plastic containers like you prime them in a bottle?

I was thinking I'd like to put 20ltrs of my brew into a 20ltr plastic container and add the appropriate amout of priming sugar to gas the beer. Then when the keg is empty I could pour the gassed beer into the keg for ready use?

Anyone have any info about this sort of thing.

What temperature can I store the beer at so it wont spoil?

Should I prime or not prime when storing in plastic containers... that is the question. :)

Beer lowering mens standards through the ages... mmm beer.

I don't see that it would be a problem, assuming they are clean and sanizited. Note... most plastic will allow O2 thru, so the beer will oxidize faster... I'd plan on drinking it within 6 months.

I'd only prime them if plastic containers are designed to hold pressure. Otherwise, you could blow them up!

For example, many of us have put beer into 2 or 3 liter soft drink bottles, primed and everything. It works great, but it does taste "stale" after X months (the small soft drink bottles stale in, say, 1.5 months, but the 2L bottles can go a good bit longer - ie., the more beer there is, it seems the longer it takes for it all to stale).

Any normal household temperature should be fine for beer. Very hot storage will make it "age" faster, tho' (like in a 100F garage).

Why not keg it and carb it up so it's ready to go. Will store much longer with NO oxygen getting to it.

You and I are on the same page!

My rule on what we call 'PET bottles' in the States is "It's ok for a month." The reason plastic bottles are a problem is they are meant to keep carbonation out, but will over time let oxygen in.

I do too, but I use 2 liter bottles.

Not a good idea. Buy more kegs!

My kegs are kept at 59F (15C) cause I like them that way. No way I'd store them above 77F (25C).

The answer is still BUY MORE KEGS!
