Anyone got any views on E-Bay item No: 270156573151Would any of the regulars care to suggest how drinkable this might be and whether it is likely to be genuine as I am considering it as a present and I know very little about whisky
Hmmm... the label says "A. Overholt & Company, est. 1810, distillers of Monongahela Pure Rye Whiskey, Pittburgh, PA".
I've never tried any rye whisky, so I couldn't offer an opinion even categorically. Furthermore, this group is about single-malt scotch whiskey, not Pennsylvania Rye whiskey, so it's a bit off-topic here.
As for "authenticity", have you tried googling the stuff on the label? Apparently not, if you're posting here. Google and Wiki are your friends for questions like this. Here, let me try for you....
Hmmm.... I come up with this interesting tidbit:

Seems this may be an illegal bootleg whiskey from the time of the american prohibition, back around 1930 or so. Probably lots of congeners, very strongly (if not pleasantly) flavored. More valuable as a historical collector's item than an after-dinner drink, I should think.
For "drinkability", get a bottle of Macallan instead. Or if you want something wild and smokey and briney, Laphraoig. Or how about a nice fruity spicey Glen Morangie? Especially "Glen Morangie Portwood Finish". Those would be my advice for "whisky as a present".
