Ardbeg - worth the price?

I guess if you have nothing else to do with your money and you are a collector, not a drinker, you might justify the cost as a conversation piece. My own bottle of Ardbeg 10 was significantly cheaper, came with a heavy waxed seal in a nice custom bottle (although no number of authentication) and is a great, smoky, well balanced dram. I suspect that distilleries are trying to pull some money out of the growing market with a few rare casks. I'll wait for the tasting. Most older whiskeys are good and different, but not necessarily better than the 10-16s.

The most interesting thing for me was the fact that the Telegraph (UK) can't spell whisky. How pathetic is it that they rely on Microsofts US spell check dictionary for a UK paper?

2K pounds is too much for me .. if it was 62 I might be tempted (year of my birth) but even then..

At the current conversion rates that would be in excess of US$300 per dram. Unless it's ~175 times better than the bog standard Talisker, I think I've got better things to spend my "copious discretionary budget" upon (like an entire case of Buffalo Trace, a fifth of Talisker, a fifth each of Glenmornagie Maderia and Port finished Scotch whisky) all for the cost of a single dram.

Regards, Rob "US$311.19 per dram, Furrfu!" Crowe

I had to type the URL in 2 times before I caught the misspelling of "whiskey". You'd think the U.K. would know better. I'd expect that here in the "states" but not there.
