Arrangements for own cask

Dear whisky enthousiasts,

I'm looking into the possibility of buying an own cask whisky. I know Bruichladdich offers this. I have a few questions which I hope you can answer:

  1. Are there, besides Bruichladdich", other distilleries who offer casks to the broad public?
  2. Which taxes do i need to take into account once I want to bring the whisky to belgium/Netherlands?
  3. Where can I find bottles and what is the price per bottle?
  4. Who do I need to contact when I want to bottle the whisky?
  5. Who do I need to contact for labeling of the bottles? Any idea on the price for labels?
  6. Any other stuff I', missing out here?

Thanks in advance for your answers !!!

Have you seen

3 Dutch lads who have bought their own cask of Bruichladdich. They might have some answers about other wiskies? And

the Society of Whisky Owners and Drinkers. They seem to have bought a few casks. The Usguebaugh Society,

Arran, Bladnoch, Tullibardine, Speyside and IB Duncan Taylor all sells casks.

Can't help you there.

The distillery will help you out with this. As for Laddie they have their own bottlingplant, so everything is done on site.

Just that you need patience. Since most destilleries sall sell casks sell casks of new make, and it takes some 10 years for the spirit to mature to your liking. Therefore it's a bit early to worry about bottles, bottling and taxes just yet.

Lord Beppie,

Some (other) aspects you may want to take into account:

a) size & type of cask b) insurrance included for the duration of the contract c) possibility to extent contract (normally 8 to 10 yrs) if need be d) location of maturation (onsite or offsite) e) inspection of cask feasibility f) "sample" bottlings at regular intervals g) bottles (& labels ?) & bottling included plus location

No point to worry about taxes until closer to date of bottling ;-)

Best, Paul (cask owner at Springbank Distilleries)
