Balvenie Portwood 21 yo

Anyone tried this. It's on offer at Heathrow Duty Free for 45 pounds.

Worth the investment?

I'd be prepared to take a risk on it personally.

YES, YES, YES. It is my all time favorite. A little expensive here in Louisiana (about $90 US), but worth it. MerryD

Yes, it's lovely. Finish a mile long, great flavor, very smooth. I don't have the vocabulary to describe it in tasting-notes style, I'm afraid, but I very much enjoyed my bottle while it lasted. In the US, it's about 80 dollars, which sounds like just about 45 pounds.

I agree with the other posters - a luscious malt. I think the 12YO Doublewood is also a lovely whiskey in its price range - I often recommend it to beginners. A nice touch of sherry, but not overwhelming, like some people feel about the Macallan 18YO. Actually, I haven't tried the newer releases, but the 1978, 1979, and 1980 Macallan 18YO vintages I own have are quite strong in the sherry presence, but I still think they're delightful malts.

I'm not as big a fan of the 10YO Founder's Reserve, or the 15YO Single Barrel. I've only had a sip of the very expensive 1966 distilling, and WOW!
