Best tours around Rothes? Also shipping ?

My brother and I will be spending two nights in Rothes in late September. What are some of the lesser known distilleries that we should visit?

Also, will most of the distilleries ship back to the states? If so how bad is duty going to be? Am I better off carrying it back with me?

Thanks

Hi Bob

Try Glen Grant in Rothes itself

Most of it's whisky is sold as a young malt to Iltaly, but try to get hold some older stuff. Theres a nice Garden at the distillery as well

There's a Cooperage in Craigellachie nearby well worth a visit

Theres loads and loads and loads of distislleries in that area incl. Macallan and Glenfiddich, but I personnally enjoyed visiting Cragganmore for visiting a disllery without a visitor centre. You have to make an appointment

In the dates fit, remember the Autumn Speyside Whisky Festival in and around Dufftown (a few miles away from Rothes) -

If you're there during the festival you might get to visit distilleries that normally don't welcome visitors.

In addition a load of tasting and whiskyevents.

We'll be there on the 21st and 22nd, so just a bit early for the festival.
