Binny's

I'm going to Chicago in early September. How is the selection of the downtown Binny's. Any specials?

The SMS selection was good there. I bought an awesome Bourbon, the 21 year old rock maple hill farms (forget the name but it's most of those). Green label details. Stunningly good, maybe even better than my favorite Scotch. Almost.

Two specials: 1) don't always trust Mapquest. I ended up in a neighborhood in which I obviously didn't belong, and I was far, far from the downtown. 2) call the exact store if you're looking for something in particular. I searched the website, and was really hoping to find a few things I can't get in Puritan Ohio, but the downtown location didn't have the ones I was looking for. Some prices were very good, others were not, as I recall.

I've only been to the Binny's in Evanston on Dempster Avenue. Good selection, usually, with somewhat high prices to match. It seems that over the years, their prices edge higher and higher.

If you are downtown, I would suggest getting yourself over to Sam's on Marcey Street. It's an enormous place; the scotch aisle runs both sides of the aisle, with traditional distillery bottlings on the one side and some spectacular special bottlings on the other (Murrray and David, Blackadder, etc.). It's worth a cab ride just to see! Prices are "Chicago competitive." By that I mean that I can beat some of their prices in my locals here in Wisconsin, but there are bottlings there you just won't see in too many places here in the U.S.. Twice a year, spring and fall, Sam's has a great sale, too. When you hit their sale, you feel like you have robbed the empire!!

Good luck. If you make it to Sam's, let us know what you found. Enjoy Chicago, truly a f> I'm going to Chicago in early September. How is the selection of the
