Assuming you mean Johnnie Walker, then yes. It's a blended scotch. Quite a good one.

If you like JW Black Label, its more than likely that you will also enjoy the peatier malt whiskies. But Black label will seem like a very pale imitation after you've tried these brutes:-

Talisker 10 Laphroaig 10 Lagavulin 16 Caol Ila 12 Ardbeg 10

And what is the logic behind that conclusion?

Its a while since I had a glass of Black Label but I remember it having a fuller flavour than most blends and a smoky taste of peat in the background. If I only had a choice of blends I would choose Black label.

As I also love all the Islay single malts I thought it possible that someone else might have the same taste as me.

Cheers, Tony

They're all single malts. Whisky from a single distillery using malted barley.

Blends like JW Black are a mixture of these plus cheaper grain whisky. The smokiness of JWB is sometimes put down to having Talisker in the blend.

I have one. Along with around 120 others, including my last bottles of 1974 Ardbeg 18.

None of them tells me what he tastes in JW Black that leads him to his belief.

I love Islays as well, but I would think that JW Black's hint of smoke might lead one to, say, Talisker, Oban, or HP, rather than the Islays. Most of the Islays would seem (comparatively) to require a quantum leap.

Yes - the name of a whiksy and the number is the age of that whisky.

So Talisker 10 refers to a 10 year old whisky called 'Talisker'.

Just to refine that a little - the age statement is the age of the _youngest_ whisky that goes into making the contents.
