Anybody have any comments/know anything about Bunnahabhain? It's an Islay malt, in my local shop for USD36 (12 YO) and USD80 (18 YO), both
750mL, 40ABV. I don't recall seing it mentioned in the group. Is it worth trying?

It's not a really peaty Islay malt, but Bunny is wonderful. We can no longer get it here in NC, but when we could, it was closer to fifty bucks a bottle for the 10. I'll take all you can send me at those prices.
It has been a few years but I have good memories of it. I think that would have been the 12; it was very lightly peated and had a fine nutty flavour.
Slight change of topic: The Bunny and Bruichladdich were the least peaty of the Islays. Bruichladdich has been producing something called Octomore, however, allegedly the peatiest single malt ever. Does anyone know if it has been released yet?

Duh. See the thread "Whither Octomore" in this newsgroup, Aptil 12, 2006.

Larry, I and countless others have patiently answered questions in this newsgroup for many years. Not even people who ask how much the bottle of Seagram's Hooch from their uncle's cupboard is worth get told "Duh," which is another way of saying, "You idiot." I have personally answered dozens of questions that had been asked dozens of times before. How much more trouble is it to post your recollection of that thread than to post an insult?
It is about being considerate.

Oh? Is "duh" insulting in English? Or is it American? Well, us foreigners don't know everything :-) Anders, newly educated.
Peace, brothers. Have a dram and relax.
We were all newcomers to a list at one time. It is difficult to remember that our first questions or postings were also, most likely, repetitions of earlier topics which had been hashed over by the in-crowd. But posters come and go, and the questions are usually renewable by virtue of the possibility of new insights from new contributors.
There is also the daunting challenge of not only trying to search a vast backlog of previous topical postings, but also the fact that many newsservers do not retain postings far enough back to offer meaningful, chronological history of the thread in question. Digging through the list's archives is a terribly time consuming task at best. Repetition is boring to those of us who already "have the answer" or have formed our opinions, but new posters, like children, should be tolerated for their perceived indiscretions (which is where I now stand). ;-)

I had an idea about the meaning, yes. However, what is perceived as an insult by some, is often common language by others. Some feathers are more easily ruffled than other. So, there are two factors at play here - a more or less complete knowledge of the language and what is common usage in the native language. Anders
Funnily enough I'm sipping a 12yo Bunny right now. Yes - lightly peated. Distinctly more so than the Laddie, but much less than Caol Ila. In fact, to my palette the peat doesn't actually taste much of peat as such
- not in the way Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Caol Ila do. Rather, it just gives an intensely dry, savoury flavour, but with a taste packing the full punch of a typical Islay. Nutty? Yes, I can see what you mean. I'm afraid I'm useless at describing tastes, but the phrase "dog poo" has come to mind to describe the nose (sorry, but it has!) I have to say it's my least favourite of the Islas, but I enjoy it when I'm in the mood (like now) and I know of nothing else quite like it.
Just clearing my virtual throat, Bill, before replying. But if you've been around here for many years, I would think that you'd check your current USEnet hosts's cached messages (i.e., those still readily visible right now in your newsreader) before posting an inquiry. Any decent USEnet server maintains at least six months of text groups. And I believe I did post a pointer to that thread, didn't I?

Hi there, Bill. The distillery has a good deal of info:
Gunnar
Thank you, Gunnar. I had probably read that before but had forgotten.
It's a big outlay, but I'm thinking that 300 pounds for 12 bottles of what might be a remarkable malt could be a good investment. I'm thinking about it. I do like those phenols.
cheers.
bill
Don't forget the duty and VAT.
R.
Yes, that remains to be investigated.
