Dickel - a damn fine bourbon

I was looking for a not too expensive bourbon to bring to a party. Dickel fit the bill perfectly, and it was really good!

What do others think of Dickel?

Thanks.

I have a bottle of Dickel 12 that I enjoy but I've never had the 8. FYI, Dickel is Tennessee Whiskey not Bourbon.

Isn't that very, very close to Bourbon, though?

This same discussion took place here last week. Tennessee sour mash whiskey is made in the same fashion as bourbon, but is subjected to particular final filtration steps that change its character materially and distinguish its taste substantially from bourbon.

Ah, I missed that discussion.

The guy at the liquor store said there was very little difference between Tennessee sour mash whiskey and Bourbon.

I have to say - having a somewhat uneducated palate - I've not noticed a big difference between say JD and Jim Beam, not more than say the difference between one bourbon and another (say JB and Smoky Joe).

If we're talking filtration, is it a bit like the difference between CF and NCF malts? I can tell a difference if I taste them back to back - but not a big one.

Very enlightening - chill mellowing then!

It's a shame that they burn all that wood without utilising the energy - now that would never happen in Scotland.
