Can anyone suggest a retailer of whisky who doesn't spam? I'd love to buy some sampler packs, but won't buy from this spammer.

Hey Guys,

Sorry if you think we are spamming, is there any chance you guys could set up a marketplace?! So that there is somewhere specific that retailers can post?

I always do my best to post in market places or retail special forums, but if places don't have one, then I just figure the group are okay with us posting in the main bit. Sorry if I offended anyone, I won't post on here again.

Cheers

Look for a group with .forsale or .marketplace in the name.

That's a pretty ballsy assumption to make. You're more likely to offend potential customers than attract them by doing so.

You *are* spamming.

I can't speak for everyone, but one thing that never offends me is when an avid participant within a newsgroup is an industry professional, and, as such, he/she occasionally offers services to his/her fellow participants when appropriate. I can think of several people who post to alt.coffee who fit that description.

Good point, John. For another example, over on the aircooled VW group, there's a guy who sells restoration supplies, parts, and that sort of stuff. He's also a _very_ active contributor of knowledge to the group, offering advice, suggestions, links, and general wisdom regularly. Every group has a couple of them, and in that group, he's one of them. You know the type. He also happens to sell stuff, which I didn't quite catch for _months_ because he never mentioned it. Just comments from people on-group of "I got this from (John)", eventually twigged to the fact that they mean that guy.

If you have a service related to a group, great, that's fine. I do unix consulting, but I don't answer every unix question on Usenet with "Hi, hire me!". If I cared to drum up more business, I could add a link to my .sig file, and if people valued my unix answers in a discussion group, they might follow the link and find out I'm available for hire. Low-key is the way to do it in discussion groups.

A sales person being pushy where people are trying to talk about a topic is rarely welcome, and is the equivalent of an insurance salesman crashing a social party.

In my opinion.
