Glenfarclas

Just bought a bottle of 15 year old Glenfarclas (and tasted it). It's great and I cannot recommend it enough!!!

I got a liter of Glenfarclas 12 at the Hamburg airport for 29 Euro this summer and it was very good. An almost syrupy-rich concoction that had strong overtones or both sherry and bourbon. Glenfarclas doesn't skimp on character.

Nice tour. GREAT shop. The "105'' Cask Strength is just amazing....thick, velvety....feels like it glows going down.

Agreed. Given a choice between that and the Aberlour A'Bunadh I'm not sure which one I'd go for.

I did an extended tour with them 10 months ago and afterwards a master class. I was very impressed. The tour is not as good as Aberlour, but the tastings you get after the extensive tour was excellent. I agree that the 15 of Glenfarclas indeed is excellent. I have a bottle of it here at home myself in the collection.

One of the best I ever had was their commemorative Year 2000 bottling. It was only a 10-year-old or so, but the casking in a fresh oloroso sherry butt made it heavenly--rich and robust, a perfect match to the sherry. I've seen similar fresh-sherry cask bottlings at Weinquelle in Hamburg since then.

All this talk about Glenfarclas made me go out and get a bottle of 105. I've yet to try it but I'm really looking forward to it.

But that sounds like the character of other drinks! Sherry? Bourbon? They arent Scotch!

But Glenfarclas IS....some of the best I've had. 15 yo is classic Speyside and the CS is that syrupy velvet the OP speaks of.

I do - new sherry or bourbon barrels!

The obvious question, then, is what is a "new" sherry or bourbon barrel? Unless it has had sherry or bourbon in it to begin with, then it's just a new barrel. It doesn't become a sherry or bourbon barrel until it has been used.

But then, what about your contention in another thread about the descrecation of "pure" scotch by being "tainted" by barrel residues? Sorry, your logic eludes me......
