Hints on protecting the liver - can anyone advance this information?

thank you all who responded professionally to the question I posed about alcohol proof and the liver. I appreciate it.

The notion of my liver dying happer doesn't rest well with me. So, please let me share my own knowledge about protecting it.

I have researched this extensively. There are lots of commercial vitamin products out there (sadly expensive) which can protect the liver. I have isolated three key vitamins, that are cheap, and if you take everyday will transform your liver to a iron vessel. I can tell you, for the last year I have been taking these and I can tell the difference. The biggest difference is when I "pee", it doesn't look like what urine looks like after drinking, dark and heavily processed. I mean, it's pretty much day and night when you take these while drinking. Something to look at.

These easy to find vitamins are:

1) 500MG - 1GRAM of Milk Thistle Standardized Extract 2) 400MG of Turmeric Standardized Extract 3) 500MG of Artichoke Standardized Extract

If you buy these from leading Vitamin makers, Jarrow, Puritan's Pride or NOW Vitamins, you should expect to spend $20-$25 per month for all three. Well worth it in my opinion to protect the liver.

So that is what I know about that. I am researching products that will help the heart. I have a few organized thoughts on that one, but still studying -- Any insights out there?

PS - Sorry for the non-relevant Cigar group added eariler. I guess not every cigar smoker drinks whiskey. I must watch too many movies. Mark

[ . . . ]

I take 500 mg of Milk Thistle 3 times a day. Just started when my blood tests showed elevated liver enzymes and in preparation for Burns' Night (Jan 25), when I'll be having more than a few nips.

I'm also taking 5 Rx's for my blood pressure, some for 30 years. Plus I smoke cigars on special occasions.
