Has anyone tried a Nikka Malt ?? I have in munich a few month ago, but it was the end of the evening at the hotel bar, and the whisky and beer list was quite long so I don't remember what it really tasted like. Oups on a business trip......
(the spelling is crap .. I'm only just having my first cup of coffee today)
Years ago when living in Japan I was almost a regular.. I bought a single burbon cask, cask strength, Nikka at Park Avenue the second last time I was in New York.
When living in Japan my tastes ran towards the more accessable glens.. Glen Fiddich, Glen Livet, Glen Farclas and Glen Morangie. From memory the Nikka was much like those standard Spey siders, smoother and dryer.. more honey and straw than anything else, slightly floral.
The cask strength is quite nice but my tastes have moved both north and west since I had last tasted a Nikka... I can't think of any other cask strength whisky to compare it to .. still light honey and flowers, no real caramel or any of the other "sugary" flavors..
I tend to use it to distract friends from the limited selections of Ardbeg I still have at home.
At the risk of being flamed for pedantry, I think you'll find that each of those whiskies is spelt as a single word.and in fact to distinguish from generic glenlivets, the eponymous whisky is called THE Glenlivet. The spellings I use are, after all, those used by the distillers.
That is too much for me to think about without my coffee ration, I don't think I could correctly spell anything at this point so I was hopeing to get away with being silly.
That'ns onk, sonmetimes lentters sneank nin winthout beingn notniced.
It's actually quite good - ten years old, 50% alcohol, interesting oak, vanilla, and...leather maybe? The corn is quite evident. Could use some peat, though...
We had a birthday party for my daughter, and I wanted something to share with the other dads. It went over well, and I enjoy it, so it's a win-win. Next bottle will be the Scapa 14, in a few months, I think.
