Longrow 10yo Tokaji is like nothing I've ever drank.

Has anybody else had a change to drink Longrow 10yo Tokaji? It was recommended to my by the barkeep at my local whisky room and it blew me away. I first drank it watered, and all I could think was GROSS, but ofcourse, in a good way. I liked it so much full strength that it has become my new favorite. It's finished in hungarian wine oak and bottled at 55.6. What do you all think?

I've looked at it longingly at the 39th Avenue liquor store, which was down to the last bottle or two a few weeks back. Everything I've read about Longrow makes me want it, but it's a little beyond my budget.

I assume from the Shebeen reference in your notes that you're in Vancouver?

I've only been there a couple of times, the first time when the venue for my office party fell through and someone suggested Shebeen. We got the place for the evening, had some food catered, and had a lovely time, ending with some Ardbeg 17, if memory serves. They also have good beer on tap.

It's not exactly easy to spot, since you have to weave your way through about three rooms of the bar that fronts on Carrall Street.

Did you know that Vancouver's original city jail was in that building, and that it's one of the oldest buildings in the city?

The only other piece of trivia I have about it: It was featured in the Da Vinci's Inquest television series at least once. I recognized it when I walked in. I wouldn't be surprised if that was Larry Campbell's idea, who knew that part of town very well and is a great scotch drinker.

cheers.
