Not sure about big city prices here in the U.S., but my only two local suppliers (both rural independents) just bumped prices up about 10% across the board on SMS.

If it's across the board, you could be seeing a currency adjustment. Over the last few years, I think the British pound has been gaining on the U.S. dollar. And perhaps small independent stores in the same region are using the same importer.

It's the exchange rate. Somewhere around $1.88 today, but it has been $1.90 and it takes a while for the exchange rates to affect prices.
In the Los Angeles, CA area, at least in the liquor store that I visited today, the prices have not gone up one cent. There is already significant variations in price from store to store for the same whisk(e)y and that can easily be greater than 10%.
