The following link will take you to a story that explains what I had greatly feared. Namely, we are running out of Scotch Single Malt!!!
You can see it when the Cardhu and some others mess up and switch to Pure Malt or to younger age bottles or to bottles with no aging descriptions. Before we know it, they might be cutting the booze with camel urine for better nose or longer finish (yes, that does work).
I mean it only makes sense. They can only make and store so much of that stuff and the population keeps expanding. Now the Chinese are demanding their share of single malts. Their share?! Can you believe it? Just one go around stocking their collections will wipe us out in no time. Also, good peat is not made overnight. They will eventually run out of peat at the current rate of production.
Everyone fears the "peak" in oil production and the ensuing chaos. I fear the "peak" in single malt scotch production in the face of growing demand. Can you imagine it? Facing mobs who are drunk on flavorless vodka or cheap gin? Beer breathed professors? Surgeons suffering from facial wine sores? Bourbon??? Yuk!
I'm getting more scotch right now.
