Tasting Report

One of my occasional tasting reports.

I've just opened a bottle of Glenury Royal, 23yo, distilled in 1971 bottled

1995. ABV of 61.3%. from The "Rare Malt Selection". The bottle was bought in 2001 for GBP39 which for the age and strength was a bargain price.

Glenury Royal Distillery in Stonehaven near Aberdeen was mothballed in 1985, so this will become increasingly difficult to find.

The bottle is NOT chill-filtered, and mixed in equal parts with water is a tad cloudy.

It's a lovely bronze colour. There is no indication of what type of cask was used, but I would guess from the colour and taste it was a sherry one. Undiluted - it has a sweet sherryish taste . Diluted, delightful honey undertones emerge. which mingled with the smokiness makes for an interesting malt. As it's after 10pm when I'm writing this, I must agree with the label which describes it as a bedtime malt.
