2009 Clos Rougeard

Some friends in town who had picked out a restaurant near their hotel, around Madeleine so a business neighbourhood (with prices to match), but the place "Chez Monsieur" (Royale Madeleine) featured an excellent artichoke starter and fine blanquette de veau, good and friendly service even though we opened the place up at 7pm, a grumpy time for most restaurant staff here.

The wine list had quite a bit of interesting stuff, it can be seen at

and I would certainly recommend to visitors looking for something in this area.

I couldn't resist the 2009 Clos Rougeard, and was amazed to see how well this domaine is represented at the restaurant. Gorgeous nose, we decanted and it opened up with bright red fruits and an elegant lean structure. Superb and refreshing balance, and in a domaine wine too. A.

Santiago and I visited Foucault last year, thanks to S's connection. The tasting was interesting although we didn't get to discuss much with Foucault since he was engrossed in local gossip with the winemaker who had brought us. Still, he was friendly enough in the way of an old French countryman and I have a good picture of my dog lying down in front of a barrel of Brezé... :)

Emery,

I am glad you did not lose your appreciation of Clos Rougeard wines after our visit.

What about november in Paris?

I'd have been tempted by that fricassée of veal sweetbreads and foie gras{:-) Graham

Ah, but with what wine, Graham? ;)

Perhaps two glasses, one for the ris and one for the FG{:-) I suppose a compromise would be an auslese but his list had me scratching my head. Incidentally, I see he has a 2010 Cap de Faugères for €50. That's what my b-i-l and I paid for a 2005 in a St.Emilion resto recently and it's not much more than I would pay retail here. However, in local restaurants, they usually charge 3x retail. Graham

thanks for notes. I love Clos Rougeard (though not prices), but have never had the Breze, only the reds. Add to bucket list!
