2012 Pian Delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino

2012 Pian Delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino ****

had it again. I actually bought it for a tuscany tasting Im hosting later i n november (where I also serve 2001 Brunello from Pian delle Vigne!), but s omething urged me to open it. first pop n pour it was thin and lacking. the n as the night went by it became increasingly interesting and unique. so do nt be too fast to judge it. it is the BEST rosso di montepulciano I ever ha d. better than some brunellos. I dont even consider it my kind of wine. I normally like more earthy, cedar , earthy, tannic wines. but it really has a lot of flavour, slight licorice , brussel sprount (confirmed from last TNs!) flowers, dark red berries, tic kling your tongue. stays in your mouth increasing intensity after swallowin g. it reminds me more of my fav. burgundies than tuscanies (maybe because I normally drink american styled brunello and supertuscans from tuscany). All in all, an alluring mystique wine, so raising my initial grade.

note: oh, just noticed I reused the word "alluring" from the last TNs. very intriguing.

Yes.

My Italian father-in-law considers Pian delle vigne to be the best wines in Italy. I dont agree, but this certainly is the best rosso di montepulciano I had. The 14th Ill know if the brunello is also the best brunello I had. So far its Castelgiacondo, but I only like them wiht age (currently 2003 ha s in the right drinking window) and I only tasted a fresh vintage pian dell e vigne. But the 14th Ill try the 2001.

I remember buying the 1997. Pretty nice wine, but hard to place as Brunello .

Do you think that Castelgiacondo brunello is better?

Which do you think is better of major producer: Antinori or Frescobaldi? (or a 3rd one?)

what's the point of drinking rosso di Montalcino (and not Montepulciano as u wrote above :-) ) in a wine tasting? I mean, it is only che cheap version of the true wine. If i can add any suggestions, you should try other brunello, other than Castelgiocondo or Pian delle Vigne

I have had others. Not as good as those two though.

Camigliano and Palazzi for example. And some I dont even remember the names of.
