Couple of weekend wines

Had friends at the farm this weekend and opened some old bottles.

1997 Diamond Creek Red Rock Red Rock Terrace (mag) A bit of brick. Dusty N apa notes on the nose, plum and currants with leather. Smooth on the palat e red raspberry, espresso, cedar and leather. Needed to be drank. B+

1997 Spottswood Cabernet. Color was a bit off as was the nose and the wine was undrinkable. Bad bottle, bad storage, either way too bad as I've had the wine before and it was usually a long ager.

2013 Kongsgaard Chardonnay Napa. Pale gold in the glass. Clean precise no se of lemons and minerals. Stunning on the palate. Clean and crisp citrus notes with an underlying purity of fruit and minerality that you usually o nly find in GC white Burgs. Great balance and depth. A

1989 Chateau Latour (mag) Still garnet with little hint of age. Fairly tig ht nose even after decanting showing a little spicebox and tobacco. Elega nt and smooth on the palate with red fruits, plums a bit of wet stones on t he finish. B+

1966 Chateau Pichon-Dark red with fair amount of brick at the rim. Iodine and barnyard on the nose initially but red and black fruits eventually comi ng on strong. Deep and rich texture with raspy tannins still hanging on. Plenty of fruit structure. B

Too bad about the Spotteswood. Not great era for P-Baron, but that sounds better than a B even with the ta nnin :)

I'm a big fan of Spottswood and find them to be long lasting wines of quali ty. I think this bottle was heat damaged badly for a long time. It was a gift so....

The 1966 was Comtesse...I should have noted that. It was in great shape bu t the tannins were pretty pronounced and frankly there wasn't much sediment . High shoulder fill and a very good cork.
