Does cornas styled wines from new world areas exist?

In the last Cornas review I wrote that "I totally love this type of wine. for me, this is the type of wine only France can do, and noone even gets close. "

I was hoping for someone to challenge that statement :)

So, does smoky stony Cornas styled syrah wines from the new world exist?

There is an ongoing revolution in California winemaking, tending toward more Old World-like practices. Some of these new producers are Rhys, Wind Gap and Arnot-Roberts. There are also some old school producers who never adapted to current fashions, such as Edmunds St. John, Joseph Swan and Qupé. All of these producers make Syrah that expresses the qualities of the grape. Whether any taste like Cornas is a debatable proposition, but you'd just have to see for yourself.
