Help: Munchen (or Munich?)

I'm going to visit the Munchen area in Bayern (south Germany, north alpes), next month, so I'm wondering how is the food there. Somebody has some suggestion about the local food or, even better, which dishes and/or specialties should I go for? I heard that in Germany many cold-cuts are smoked, and I'm going to try them, but apart of this I know nothing else.

Traditional Munich food tends to be fairly heavy: dumplings and large cuts of roast pork or braised beef. You may be in season for some fresh wild mushrooms, of which there are many types.

The best place to get good hams, sausages, mushrooms, and Zugereis'ter (anyone who's moved there) stuff like fat white tuna for sashimi; as well as a feel for the local produce and fresh meats is the Viktualienmarkt, the fomer central food market, now turning more into an open air deli. It's about 2 blocks away from City Hall down the Rindermarkt, the street that goes along the front of the Alter Peter (the oldest Munich church). There are also several taverns surrounding the square that serve the market fare; so for local food, it's about as good as one can get.

Ciao Vilco

a couple of years ago I was impressed by Dukatz, a modern place in the Literaturhaus on Salvatorplatz, superb wine list.
