Hunagrian Wine

Can anyone please recomend a good bottle of Hungarian white wine?. Most of the ones available in the supermarkets tend to be cheap & too sweet, however, they have a reputation for making good whites

Thanks

It would help if I knew where you lived. Decanter had a special supplement concerning Hungarian wine this year. Some of the best wines do not leave Hungary. However here are some of the dry wines that Decanter liked and that were available in the UK at the time. Thus these wines are exported to at least some markets. Most cost under 10 Pounds in the UK.

Chateau Vincent, Crystal, Extra Dry 2000; Chateau Vincet, Extra Brut 2000; Chateau Vincent ,Tokaji Harslevelu, extra dry; Chateau Dereszla, Furmint, Tokaji 2003; Chateau Megyer, Muscat Selection, Tokaji 2003; Royal Tokaji Wine Co., Furmint, Tokaji 2003; Chateau Vincent, Pinot Noir, Rose 2002; Tibor Gal, Cabernet Franc, Eger 2000; Nyakas, Sauvignon Blanc, Budai 2003;

The above were all ranked 3-star on Decanter's 5-star scale. All of the very best wines they tasted were tasted in Hungary, and many of these rated 4-star. These tastings did not include the great Tokaji Aszu sweet wines.

Obviously sparkling wines.

Neither are (dry) whites the OP was looking for.
