Quick 'hello' to everyone

Hello everyone (especially you, Dick N),

While browsing online, I stumbled upon some postings on this group from June 2003 in which someone (in Florida, I think!) posted a link to our site, and someone on this list thought it might have been us trying to promote our then-fledgling site. Well, no, it wasn't us, we don't do spam. If you're curious about what we do, please email me off-list, and I'd be more than happy to chat, but I'm here now because I want to know what's the latest with this group, and online wine culture in general. Would love to chat about your thoughts regarding the current state of online wine info, as well as what people are wanting more of.

In any case, it's been a while, been really busy here with OW. Lately, we've been delving into small-scale winemaking (the 2005 Viognier is fantastic), are interested in starting a local winemaking group here in the Beaverton, Oregon area, and of course, are busy as usual writing up tasting reviews for local wineries and such.

What else is new... oh yes... things are in full swing for the upcoming Memorial weekend events. Lots of Oregon wineries are opening their doors for tastings and so forth. At the same time though, I know a ton of people won't be able to get out and enjoy themselves, so will probably stay at home. I'd bur curious to know what all BBQ plans you might have, and would definitely like to know of any interesting recipes and wine pairings as well.

In any case, we hope all is well with you, and hope you all enjoy the upcoming events this Memorial weekend!

Best Regards,

David Anderson

Good to see you here again, David. If you look at the thread, you'll see that it was really just one over-zealous spamhunter who made that accusation and I did attempt to set the record straight, as did Dick. I'm always interested to hear the latest news from the Oregon wine scene, as I go on biennial wine tours of the Willamette Valley at Xmastime.

Hello!

Don't recall the incident, but it can happen. Thanks for dropping by. There are not that many folk from the US/Pacific NW, who hang out here, and quite often, there are threads with questions about P NW wines and wineries, so your input will be greatly appreciated.

Hope to hear from you in the group, in the future.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for that - saw the votes of support, which inspired me to get active on this group again.

Hi Hunt,

Yes, we tend to keep this portion of the U.S. something of a closely-held secret, even if it is to our detriment. I'll always recall OR gov. Bob Straub's famous line: "Come to Oregon and enjoy yourself. When you're done, remember to leave" -- or something to that effect. It's a joke of course, but it does underscore the quiet nature of NW folks, and that tends to eek its way into all avenues of our lives. Thankfully, the Web has brought a lot of people in the wine biz out of the woodwork -- I'm amazed at the constantly increasing online presence of our local wineries -- but it still is a tough proposition to find someone from this area who's online and active on groups like this. I hope we can help turn that around a bit.

Thanks again,

David
