Hi Paul,
Thankyou so much for your reply.
I suspected it would not last more than about 8 years. And I have no idea how well it has been cellared up until early this year (I got it as a gift).
So I will take your advice and crack it open ASAP. =)
Thanks again,
Mat.

Orange ... Cool Climate ? Don't think so.
Regards Swooper (Who was corrected in this Ng when I referred to Yarra Valley as Cool climate, which is at leat 500 miles south of Orange).
500 miles? Don't think so.

Geoscience Australia [a government department] says that the distance between Orange and Croydon is 609km [is it 1.3 k's to the mile? I forget]. This is taking into account the curviture of the earth tho i think [it uses a sphere to calculate the distance].
I don't know the Yarra Valley all that well, so if u want to calculate somewhere a bit closer:
Mat.
OK, maybe 450. :>). Orange in NSW, Yarra Valley Southern Victoria. If it ain't 500 miles it's damn close!

Hi Matt In Australian terms Orange is considered a cool climate area and I can personaly atest to the freezing snowy winters. Whilst Orange does have a short period that can get quite warm the nights are still very cool due to the elevation. I don't know who howled you down about Yarra Valley being cool climate but in Australian terms both areas are considered to be Cool climate. Still havent heard how the Orange Vinyard Cab Sav held up? Regards Paul.

As far as the ripening period is concerned I'd say that both Orange and Yarra Valley are cool climate. Sure, much of summer can be quite hot, but the temperature drops off significantly (especially in Orange) towards ripening. For maturity groups (see Gladstones) 4, 5 and 6, I'd say that both areas are definitely cool climate.

Hi Paul,
I haven't got round to drinking it, was forced *cough* to buy a few Frenchies the other nite, and working all weekend, so Rosemount Cab Sav is scheduled for either Sunday or Monday nite. Will let u know how it goes.
Thanks,
Mat.

Balwyn is inner east, YV is a large area in the outer east, but well worth the trip down the highway to visit. Pinot's and Chards YV best, but many of the wineries have more than 2 strings to their bows. Good Luck.
