TN: 2010 Joseph Drouhin Morgon

2010 Joseph Drouhin Morgon *

Red colored water with a funny mouthfeel. after decanting and with food so me very tart cherry and red currants emerge. Im putting it nicely. My wife said "ewww, you should put a post it note on a glass when it has undrinkabl e wine in it. Its like toilet cleaning liquid". I think I can cross off Bea ujolais and put it in the same category as chile wine (except el qui). Avoi d.

I don‘t know this particular Morgon but I always keep mine for six or seven years. My Morgons — from Roland Petit - like Moulin a Vent appear to develop more fullness, roundness and fruit as they age. If drinking young Cru Beujolais I would go for Chiroubles or Fleurie. I had a wonderful bottle of 1985 on its 20th birthday or thereabouts — more like a good old Burgundy and several quite knowledgeable people thought it was Pinot when drunk blind, not Gamay.

I agree with Tim here. Morgons should be held longer than other Beuajolais though 2010 wasn't a good year in Beaujolais of Burgundy. That particular w ine had a weird dill pickle taste for me. I have had that in several other Beaujolais wines and not my favorite taste.
