TN: A night of GC white Burgs

So our little rouge-centric group broke out of our pattern with a white Burgundy dinner last night. Heatwave had broken and I enjoyed walk down to the Black Duck off Park Ave South. Dim bistro-y place, waitstaff was trying hard but obviously not real used to the winegeek crowd. Stems were servicable at best. I did enjoy my rock shrimp and crab cake starter, though those who got the market salad were surprised to get a pile of arugula. The halibut was a nice portion of (underseasoned) fresh fish, on some nice beans, but the tepee of meh asparagus, scatterering of pecans, and orange segments seemed to have little to do with each other. Fun night with mostly good wines

2007 Christian Moreau "Les Clos" Chablis Grand Cru I think I liked this more than table. Full, lots of depth, a bit rounder than ideal but quite good. B+

2007 Pinson "Les Clos" Chablis Grand Cru Sharp acids, nice chalky finish but lacks the fullness I expect from a GC, opens a bit towards end. B-

2002 Raveneau "Valmur" Chablis Grand Cru My WOTN. Ravishing and Raveneauish, full with deep citrus fruit, racy acids giving structure, deep. A/A-

2006 Pierre Yves Colin Morey Corton Charlemagne Good acids for 2006. Power, herbs, I enjoyed repour even more. B+/A-

2006 Henri Boillot Corton Charlemagne Initially I preferred to the PYCM, but they equalled in end. Fleshy, full, deep. B+/A-

Both of the Corton-Cs would be candidates for further aging if you didn't need to worry re premOx. Speaking of.....

1999 Olivier Leflaive Criots-Batard-Montrachet it's dead, Jim. Apple cider left on the patio for a week in August. D

2006 Sauzet Batard-Montrachet Quite floral, on the rounder side, a touch of mild oak, really quite nice with some air though it could use a tad more zip. B+

2007 Henri Boillot Criots-Batard-Montrachet Ripe, a touch exotic, very nice length. B+

I don't need to make a habit of white only offlines, but this was fun.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Funny...I just had the 2007 Boillot Criots this weekend. I thought it delicious and with grilled salmon the rich smokiness of the fish needed the ripeness to balance the intense flavor of the cedar planked wild King Salmon.
