TN: albarino, NSG, St Jo in NY

Betsy headed off from Portland the Sebago Lake festival, I took bus and Amt rak home. After retrieving pup, too tired to really cook. Defrosted some co nfit legs, made quinoa (duck broth), frozen peas.

2013 Chevillon Nuits St George VV Bright, black cherry, vanilla and campfire, nice in young sort of way. B+/B

Saturday steak, green beans with tomatoes, baby bok choy

2016 Barou “Autre Monde” St Joseph Good acids, light tannins, crushed blackberry fruit, peppery nose. Fine bar gain at $19 sale price, B+

Sunday was swordfish, shishitos, squash, beet greens caprese

2015 Do Ferreiro “Cepas Vellas” Albarino (Rias Baixas) This super old vines bottling is usually considered maybe top Albarino made , I always look forward to trying. But this bottle seemed flat and short, while there were only hints, I think this had seen some heat. From a reputa ble retailer, but with a sourced from private collector sticker. Drinkable, but barely, after dinner I switched to tastes of the NSG and St Jo.

No wines Monday (Korean stew with fish balls) but Tuesday I grilled some sq uash and eggplant, then added (along with leftover green beans with tomato) to some mussels for a variation of a mussel and ratatouille recipe I like d. Went with Albarino again, this time with more success. The 2015 Forja de Salnes “Leirana Finca Genoveva” ( Rías Baixas) is del icious. Full and zippy, saline and orange peel on top of bright white fruit s. Long finish. B+/A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a p arty where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Babykiller! :)

Shame about the Cepas Vellas. One of the few things I brought back from my mother's house was a bottle of the regular Do Ferreiro '14 (maybe I gave it to her? dunno). We opened it recently in Michigan and it was good enough for Jean to say "We should drink more Albariño")
