Wednesday night I grilled tuna steak and green garlic, had with salad and t he 2006 Damien Lorieux “Tuffeaux” Bourgueil. Still decent f ruit, and still lots of tannin. A little earth/mushroom note, touch of gree n pepper, the tannins are too raspy to really enjoy this. B-
Thursday I had a speech in city late afternoon, and decided I’d dro p by Chambers Street Wines to get a couple orders. Usually I just stop outs ide and they bring out orders, but noticed Steve Edmunds was there pouring right at time I was picking up. So found parking and tried a few Edmunds St John wines. I wasn’t taking notes, but enjoyed them all (I didn? ??t try the rose, as I’ve already tried couple times, and was a ctually in one of orders). The 2016 Heart of Gold was delicious, good acids and bright fruit. The 2015 Gamay was tasty, a little more fleshy than I re member other vintages. Steve said the 2015 was the last Rocks and Gravel, h e lost the Unti fruit source, sad because this is delicious, all red fruity and herby. The 2013 North Canyon Syrah is a new addition, Barsotti joining Fenaughty, tasty & blackfruited but all about structure right now (I bough t, but will tuck away for a while). Good to see Steve.
Got home, walked dog, and made a quick dinner of ramen with fishballs and w atercress. Wine was the 2015 Selbach-Oster Ur-Alte Reben Zeltinger Sonnenuh r Riesling Feinherb. I realize I really need to buy more Feinherb/halbtrock en. This has noticable sweetness, but under the pretty apple and tropical f ruit there’s a flinty mineral core. Big, long, fun. A-/B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a p arty where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
